Do you play winter sports? If so, our dentists, Dr. Toenjes, Dr. Brizzee, and Dr. Orme, encourage you to take good care of your teeth and gums while you practice and play. This is important because if you don’t care for your smile, there is a chance you can suffer dental problems and even dental emergencies. So, to properly care for your smile while you play winter sports, our dentists encourage you to do the following things:
-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard is a strong appliance that can protect your teeth, gums, and entire mouth from injury. Unfortunately, oral injuries are common in high-contact sports because hard, forceful objects hit the mouth and knock out or break teeth.
-Avoid drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks are oftentimes loaded with sugar, and sugar promotes cavities. It’s recommended to avoid drinking sports drinks and drink water instead.
-Attend your six-month checkups: Your routine dental cleanings and exams are very important for a top-notch oral health and smile. So, don’t forget to attend your routine checkups regularly.
